Hemingway's Common Themes

Many themes can be seen in Hemingway's writing. One theme that we see quite a few times is life and death. In "A Way You'll Never Be", we see Nick pass many dead bodies with papers around them. These papers are letters for the dead soldiers. This shows Nick that these people had lives and were more than just soldiers. 

In "Indian Camp", we see life and death. The Indian woman gives birth to a child while her husband proceeds to kill himself.

We also see that Nick has a connection with nature and life. In "Big Two-Hearted River", Nick is fascinated with the trout and it calms him. Hemingway experienced a lot of life and death. The best parts of his childhood was going camping and being in nature; we see this in "Big Two-Hearted River". Nick's father committed suicide along with other members of Nick's family. We see this in "Indian Camp".
